Women's HERstory Month

It's March! March has been designated as Women's History Month. For me, every month is Women's History Month. As the CEO of a woman-owned and operated firm, every day is an opportunity for my staff and me to create opportunities, celebrate, and support women in business.

Established in 2012, Civility Management Solutions (CivilityMS) is an SBA certified 8(a), VA verified Service Disabled Veteran, Economically Disadvantaged Woman and Woman-Owned Small Business headquartered in Greenbelt, Maryland. CivilityMS has contracted and partnered with many women-owned businesses throughout the years for marketing, training, graphic design, legal, tax, and human resource services.

Women are dominating in business. 9.4 million firms in the United States are owned by women, employing nearly 7.9 million people, and generating $1.5 trillion in sales.

This Women's History Month, I encourage each of you to support a woman-owned business this month. When you support women-owned businesses and entrepreneurs, you invest in women's economic empowerment, gender parity in commerce, vibrant communities, and overall economic growth.

The Office of Women’s Business Ownership helps women entrepreneurs through programs coordinated by Small Business Administration district offices. Programs include business training, counseling, federal contracts, and access to credit and capital.

The OWBO oversees Women’s Business Centers (WBCs). These centers seek to level the playing field for all women entrepreneurs who still face unique business obstacles.

If you are looking for ways to support women-owned businesses and entrepreneurs, here are some tips:

  • Buy from and contract with women-owned businesses.

  • Promote and share information about women-owned businesses with friends, family, and on social media.

  • Provide feedback and reviews on your service experience.

  • Nominate a woman-owned business or entrepreneur for local, state, and national awards.

Supporting women is a continuous action. Every month, make sure you are doing your part to support women making HERstory every day.
